Title:Getting the most out of Business Ready License Advanced Management – Part I – Taking advantage of MRP
URL:http://amllp.blogspot.com/2009/10/getting-most-out-of-business-ready.html
Description:Many customers are licensed for the Microsoft Dynamics GP Advanced Management bundle, but not everyone knows what is included that they can take advantage of. For instance, Advanced Management comes with the Manufacturing module, and even though you may not be a manufacturer, there are features within Manufacturing that may be useful. The Materials Resource Planning module is one of them. This module is meant to create recommendations of Purchase Orders and Manufacturing Orders based on the demand that is in Dynamics GP. It allows entering lead times, requested ship dates, order-up-to-levels, etc. so that when the MRP process is run (usually nightly) the purchasing department has the following list of recommendations waiting for them when they open up GP:
· Cancellations – PO’s that should be canceled because you won’t need them
· Move Outs – PO’s that should be delayed to keep inventory values low
· Move Ins – PO’s that should be ordered sooner because you might not meet your demand
· New PO’s – PO’s that should be created to meet demand (there is even a window that allows you to automatically generate the PO’s)
· Past Due PO’s – PO’s that should have been released
For the sources of demand, MRP will look at Sales Orders, Sales Quotes (optional) or there is even a sales forecasting module that is an add-on module but great if you have really long lead times on your purchases and need recommendations to be based off your forecasted demand.
