Title:Weekly Dynamic: Installing GP 9.0 on Vista

With the Vista consumer launch just days away, Microsoft has some tips on installing GP 9 on Vista. This is from Knowledge Base article 929908. I haven't played with GP on Vista so I can't verify this.

To run Microsoft Dynamics GP on a computer that is running Windows Vista, you have to:

• Turn off User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista before you install Microsoft Dynamics GP. To turn off UAC, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.Under User Account and Family settings, click Add or Remove User Account.

3.Click one of the user accounts that you want to change, and then click Go to the main User Account page under the user account.

4.Under Make changes to your user account, click Change security settings.

5.Under Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure, clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer option.

6.Click OK.

7.When you are prompted, restart the computer.

Note If you do not want to turn off UAC, you can install Microsoft Dynamics GP into another folder that is not under the Program Files folder. For example, the default installation path of Microsoft Dynamics GP is as follows:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP

Instead, install Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 in the following path:

•Install Microsoft Dynamics GP by using a login that has a local administrator role on the computer.

Some caveats:

  • FRx 6.7 requires SP 9.0 or better for Vista
  • Integration Manager won't run on Vista yet
  • US Payroll Tax engine won't run on Vista yet. You have to run it on a non-Vista machine
  • The SDK won't run on Vista
  • SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 pre SP1 won't run on Vista. But you've got those on a Win 2k3 computer anyway right?

So it's looks like Vista is going to be a little ways off for us GP folks.
